April - Showers of Love
Sometimes it arrives a month earlier;
But not ever later.
Sometimes the final snows still linger
The warming sun ensures they can’t last much longer.
Almost always the lambs have been birthed
cherry blossoms have bloomed
pancake races are consigned to the past
and we’ve given up on giving up.
This time is a time worth waiting for.
Each year it will come, we know.
It was foretold - so if we read, we know.
Shops overflow
how can we not know?
But it’s so much more
than chocolate, more
than eggs, more
than toasted hot cross buns laden with the butter we adore.
Almost before time started rolling;
Evil deceived,
Rescue conceived.
A different cross, simple wood.
This one laden with love.
At Easter – in April.
